Roughcast is the original Scottish exterior coating, a sand-cement or lime base coat, then a ‘wet dash’ of pebble-and-mortar thrown on by hand. Done properly it’s a 50-year covering. Done badly it’s spalling off in five. We do it the old way.

Full-perimeter re-casts on a 1930s semi run higher, and lime harling on heritage property higher again. Mix, substrate prep, aggregate choice and access all move the figure. So does the firm doing the work — larger national outfits build in heavier overheads, while a small directly-employed local team like ours can usually come in more competitively without being too small for the job.
