What a plastering job covers

We don’t lead with plastering, we do it because almost every roof leak we fix needs the ceiling making good afterwards. Same crew, same trip, no second contractor to chase. Internal skims, external sand-cement render, and traditional lath repair on heritage property.

Strip of failed plaster back to sound substrate

Bonding coat on walls, browning on overhead

Exterior sand-cement scratch and float coat

Painting and decorating coordinated as separate quote

Lath repair or PIB board replacement where lath has failed

Two-coat finish skim with fine multi-finish

Sponge-finish or smooth as specified

Single ceiling reskims sit lower; full walls-and-ceilings or external render runs higher. Area, substrate, heritage detail and trade coordination all matter. Different firms land in different places too — larger outfits carry overhead a small local team doesn’t, so we can usually be more competitive on this kind of follow-on plastering work.

What moves the cost

Area. m² of wall and ceiling drives material and labour.

Substrate. Lath repair and re-plaster well above bonding-and-skim.

Number of trades. Coordination with electrician for downlights.

Heritage detail. Matching cornice and dado work is specialist.

External weather. Sand-cement render needs dry days for cure.

Plastering FAQs

The questions we get asked most often on the survey doorstep.

Do you only plaster after roof work?

Mostly, that’s how we built the trade. We do take standalone plastering jobs in the wider area as fill-in work.

Skim is paint-ready in 5–10 days. Bonding coat under skim wants 14 days before paint. We’ll tell you on the day.

Can you match old lime plaster?

Yes, we use traditional lime mixes on listed and heritage property. It’s slower but it’s right.

Sand-cement scratch-and-float yes. Through-coloured silicone render yes. K-rend yes. We don’t do dot-and-dab insulated render systems.

Need plastering in Central Scotland?
